Donna Reed Festival for the Performing Arts – Denison, Iowa
The Donna Reed Festival for the Performing Arts is an ongoing series of foundation-supported programs to foster scholarship, education, entertainment, and community experience. Started in the Summer of 1988 in Denison, Iowa, the offerings have expanded to include year-around special events and collaborations with other organizations.
Featured events have included:
- Performing Arts Workshops for all ages in areas including Acting, Directing, Writing, Casting, Dance, Voice, Musical Theater, Sound Scoring, Staging and Technical Arts
- Children’s Musical Theatre Workshops as a week-long production experience for grades K-2 and 3-8 that culminates with a weekend performance
- Scholarship recognition programs at local, regional, and national levels of performance and technical arts
- Film screenings and presentations by artists and creators of local and national work
- The American Icon Series – a year-around “Chautauqua-style” educational and experiential series of events including living history re-enactments, concerts, plays, film screenings and discussions, and seasonal film favorites
