Crawford County is a closely knit community made up of 13 individual towns: Arion, Aspinwall, Buck Grove, Charter Oak, Deloit, Denison, Dow City, Kiron, Manilla, Ricketts, Schleswig, Vail, and Westside, whose total population nears 17,000 people. Through the cooperative efforts of local organizations, each town shares its resources with the rest of the county, enabling increased growth and prosperity for all.

Each town has its own distinct heritage, and retains the charms that distinguish it from the others. Whether it is Denison, the county seat, or Deloit, the county’s oldest town, an overwhelming sense of community prevails. Each community enjoys vast recreational opportunities, outstanding public services, and a vibrant economy, which when combined form a strong and promising county as a whole.

Founded in 1837, it is named for William Harris Crawford (1772 – 1834), an American politician and judge.
