1914-2014: Donna Reed Theatre Centennial

The Donna Reed Theatre and Center for the Performing Arts is starting its next 100-years on June 21, 2014! Help us celebrate this special event for our Foundation headquarters, museum, and community center. Listed in the National Register of Historical Places (Building – 88003145), this Western Iowa treasure begins its next century of service starting with you!

The building has had many names beginning with The Germania Opera House to The Denison Opera House to The Ritz Theater and now The Donna Reed Center.

The building will be open for tours and viewing building artifacts from the Donna Reed Heritage Museum Archives. A rededication ceremony will occur at 4:30 p.m. with comments from The Donna Reed Foundation’s Board of Directors President, John Fujii, and Denison Mayor, Brad Bonner.  Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

A special screening of the 1930s Marx Brother comedy, “Animal Crackers,” will occur at 5:30 p.m. It is an example of one of the earliest full length “talkies” and was screened at The Denison Opera House in September, 1930.
